Values are presented as mean±standard deviation, median (interquartile range), or number (%). P-values were calculated using the Student t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, chi-square test, or Fisher exact test, as appropriate.
AA/EPA, arachidonic acid-to-eicosapentaenoic acid ratio; ALT, alanine aminotransferase; AST, aspartate aminotransferase; BMI, body mass index; FIB-4, fibrosis-4; MASLD, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
| Model | OR (95% CI) for AA/EPA | P-value |
|---|---|---|
| Model 0 (unadjusted) | 1.01 (0.98–1.04) | 0.60 |
| Model 1 (adjusted)a | 1.02 (0.98–1.06) | 0.27 |
| Model 2 (+AST/ALT)b | 1.02 (0.98–1.06) | 0.45 |
ORs with 95% CIs were calculated using logistic regression models.
AA/EPA, arachidonic acid-to-eicosapentaenoic acid ratio; ALT, alanine aminotransferase; AST, aspartate aminotransferase; CI, confidence interval; MASLD, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease; OR, odds ratio.
| Model | β (95% CI) for AA/EPA | P-value | R2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model 0 (unadjusted) | –0.02 (–0.03 to –0.01) | <0.001 | 0.05 |
| Model 1 (adjusted; age excluded)a | –0.02 (–0.03 to –0.01) | <0.001 | 0.14 |
| Model 2, exploratory component-related model (+AST/ALT/platelet count)b | –0.009 (–0.014 to –0.004) | <0.001 | 0.76 |
β coefficients and 95% CIs were estimated using linear regression analysis.
AA/EPA, arachidonic acid-to-eicosapentaenoic acid ratio; ALT, alanine aminotransferase; AST, aspartate aminotransferase; CI, confidence interval; FIB-4, fibrosis-4.
| Group | Participant (n) | β (95% CI) | P-value | R2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No MASLD | 189 | –0.02 (–0.03 to –0.01) | <0.01 | 0.14 |
| MASLD | 203 | –0.02 (–0.04 to –0.01) | <0.01 | 0.14 |
Adjusted β coefficients and 95% CIs are shown separately for participants without MASLD and with MASLD. Estimates were obtained from linear regression models adjusted for sex, body mass index, smoking, alcohol intake, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. Chronological age was excluded to avoid mathematical overlap with the FIB-4 equation.
AA/EPA, arachidonic acid-to-eicosapentaenoic acid ratio; CI, confidence interval; FIB-4, fibrosis-4; MASLD, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
| Variable | Participant (n) | Pearson r | 95% CI | P-value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AST | 392 | 0.02 | –0.08 to 0.12 | 0.72 |
| ALT | 392 | 0.06 | –0.04 to 0.15 | 0.28 |
| Platelet count | 392 | 0.18 | 0.08 to 0.27 | <0.001 |
Values are presented as Pearson correlation coefficients with 95% CIs. P-values were calculated using Pearson correlation analysis.
AA/EPA, arachidonic acid-to-eicosapentaenoic acid ratio; ALT, alanine aminotransferase; AST, aspartate aminotransferase; CI, confidence interval; FIB-4, fibrosis-4 index.
